On the Train.

June 4, 2008

I told this story to Janie, Shelly, Eric, and Daniel in a minivan at Guppy’s parking lot hahahaha It’s an interesting story.

I was on the Amtrak coming from SD to Fullerton and a random lady sat next to me at the Oceanside stop. She was reading the newspaper, but after a couple minutes picked up her phone and called a friend. I wasn’t trying to hear her conversation, I just had one earphone on and the other off because I didn’t want to miss the announcements. Anyways, I heard her conversation. They started off with the usual how are you, i’m fine, he’s fine, is she fine, do you still live there, yeah dialogue. And then it just spun into a whole different conversation where I heard her say.. “Oh, well … I had a miscarriage.”

(The Italicized words are what I’m assuming the friend said)

Friend: Oh, I’m sorry I didn’t know.

Lady: Yeah. I got your text on Mother’s day and I figured you didn’t know yet. But you know you just lose track of who you tell.

Friend: Are you okay?

Lady: Yeah. Well you know how I work at the senior center and slowly people find out you’re pregnant and then everyone knows. And after it happened, I had to tell everyone I wasn’t pregnant anymore and you get so tired of telling people about it. But time definitely helps.

Friend: How is your husband?

Lady: Oh yeah, he’s okay. It was hard for him.. (memory is blurry)

Friend: Where are you going?

Lady: I’m going to Irvine right now to shop with my sister. She’s having a baby and we’re going to buy some stuff for the baby.

Friend: Oh, that sounds like fun.

Lady: Yeah, you and ____ should have a baby too.

Friend: No, we have a dog.

Lady: hahahaha What kind?

Blah Blah Blah.

So anyways, I really wanted to hug this lady. You could tell she was really trying to not make it awkward for her friend. And even though she had a miscarriage very recently, she was going to go and help her sister buy baby stuff. Goes to show how strong women are.

Anyways, this past week has been so much play/fun. I’m going to miss it.

In the words of Ki Hong Lee.. PEACE OUT (hahaha)
